Analytical claims are only useful when readers understand what was measured. This hub explains the laboratory methods used to study peptide identity, composition, purity, stability and degradation — and the limits of what each test can establish.
Methods we explain
Start here: Mass spectrometry vs HPLC for peptide testing, then compare it with our HPLC chromatogram guide and certificate-of-analysis checklist.
Reading a combined LC–MS report? Use the LC–MS comparison and report-reading map to distinguish a UV chromatogram, a total ion chromatogram and a mass spectrum before interpreting the peaks.
| Your question | Start with | Key distinction |
|---|---|---|
| What does a chromatogram’s purity percentage mean? | Reading HPLC peaks and peak-area purity | Relative detector signal and peptide quantity are different measurements. |
| Does a mass match establish identity? | Mass spectrometry vs HPLC | Separation, intact mass and sequence evidence contribute different information. |
| How does amino acid analysis differ from MS confirmation? | MS vs amino acid analysis | The target and sample treatment matter; AAA can itself use LC–MS/MS. |
| Can I trace the result to a documented sample? | The certificate-of-analysis checklist | Method, sample identifier, reported quantity and report provenance belong together. |
For background on stability, degradation and reference standards, follow the linked method guides. A test result supports only the claim that its design and documented sample can establish.
Does a tested sample represent the batch? Our risk-based sampling guide separates every-batch testing from periodic verification, unit selection and the limits of a laboratory result.
Measurement before marketing
A percentage on a certificate is not a complete scientific conclusion. Method suitability, sample handling, identity confirmation and the distinction between purity and quantity all matter. Our laboratory explainers focus on those distinctions.
Regulatory bridge: a valid result is still not a regulatory approval. Read Peptide Lab Tests vs TGA Approval to distinguish sample testing, GMP evidence, ARTG inclusion and lawful Australian supply.
